Representatives of Modern Woodmen of America presented a check for $500 to the Veterans Tribute Committee to help fund the Tribute located on the main campus of Kaskaskia College. Financial Representatives Jane Wayer and Mark Simmons presented the check on behalf of the Modern Woodmen Centralia Chapter’s Good Neighbors project. The money will be used to purchase the flags that circle the perimeter of the Tribute. The Veterans Tribute is a project to honor all area veterans with a series of recognition walls laid out like spokes in a wheel, with the Warriors Court, a circular area inlaid with inscribed bricks surrounding a large sculpture of an American Bald Eagle, at its center. The project is ongoing, with two walls, inscribed with the names of area veterans in black granite, already in place, along with the eagle sculpture and some of the inlaid brick pavers. When completed, the Tribute is expected to be the largest such memorial on a college campus anywhere in the country.
