The Nashville City Council met for their first meeting of the month last night and Blaine Middleton with the Utility Department reported that he would like to offer the open sewer plant operator position to Joe Walters of Nashville. Walters will still need to attend some classes to get his own Class 3 license, but this would be acceptable to the position. The Council also approved the job to be offered to Walters. Middleton also reported that the gas line work was completed as of yesterday after 4 plus years of work. There were 435 places that the copper needed to be taken out and plastic lines put in. It was found that the heat could and did cause some leaks, so it was replaced in these areas for safety reasons. The loud sound coming from Sisco Corporation, south of town, was addressed again. Councilman Dean Huge explained what noise suppression equipment is going to be installed very soon to alleviate the problems and they should wait to get the testing done until the work is done. The rest of the Council agreed and will have testing done when the work is done if that is before the meeting in 2 weeks, otherwise they will address the issues then. They agreed with J.P. Accoustical to have the area tested to see if the noise level is above EPA standards, as residents in the south part of town have been complaining for months to the city about the noise. Also, the Council approved having Curry and Associates make up plans for a new shed for the Street Department. This will give them an idea on what the cost of such a project would be. They also agreed to the change of a property line that was inaccurate, which was agreed upon by both parties. The Council also approved the purchase of hooded jackets or hooded sweatshirts for the city workers on the street in the amount of $446 from Lee’s Sports. The jackets are the fluorescent green to make them stand out to motorists. This will be funded through a safety grant. The next meeting will be on November 21st and the public is invited to attend.
