Patricia  Joan Grant, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away surrounded by her family on January 18, 2025 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born July 8, 1942 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Robert Alson and Velma “Imogene”  Lorene (Roeder) Grant.

Joan is survived by her brother, Russell Wayne Grant and wife, Marsha of Mount Vernon; nephew, Rob Flanagan and wife, Kristy of Olney, Illinois; nieces, Jodi Cooper and husband, Ian, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Meredith Delano of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Natalie Grant of Austin, Texas; great-nephews, Lukas Cooper and wife, Hannah, Braden Flanagan, Beau Cooper, and Kyle Cooper; and great-nieces, Hailey Flanagan, Kaitlyn Flanagan, and Maybelline Delano.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Flanagan; brother, Robert Allen Grant; and brother-in-law, Gary Flanagan.

Throughout her life, Joan was employed at the Florsheim Shoe Factory, Woolworths Department Store, and for the Regal 8 Hotels office until its closing.  The “job” she most loved was caring for her great-nieces and great-nephews. She babysat for 3 of her great-nephews from birth until they became school aged earning her the title of beloved “Nannie.”  Joan was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt devoting her life to caring for her family.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially reminiscing about growing up with all her aunts, uncles, and cousins living near-by.  Joan was a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church.

A private service will be held. Interment will be at New Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Joan’s honor to Old Union Missionary Baptist Church.
