Betty Sledge, 99, of Texico, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at her home in Texico, with her family by her side.

She was born in Marion County, Illinois, on April 25, 1925, the daughter of Marvin and Lucy (Guymon) Tate.  She was a graduate of Kell High School and Brown’s Business College.  Betty married Dee L. Sledge on September 25, 1945, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 1977.

She was a legal secretary for Howard and Howard Law Firm, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, for many years.  Betty was an avid reader, and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  She lived her life in service and devotion to her Lord, her family, and her community.

Betty is survived by one son, David Sledge and wife Vicki of Flora; daughters, Nancy Bain and husband Bart of Savannah, Georgia, and Laura Weems of Bolivar, Tennessee; grandchildren, Deanna Urbanski and husband Steve of Du Bois, Illinois, Danny Sledge and wife Kathy of Texico, Chris Sledge and wife Shelly of Texico, Bly Crane and husband Scott of Athens, Georgia, Kayla Needham and husband Sam of Greenville, South Carolina, Matthew Sledge and partner Brittany of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Brandon Bain and partner Christa of Savannah, Georgia, Darby Kelly and husband Zach of Atoka, Tennessee, and Carly Hall and husband Jake of Bolivar, Tennessee; thirteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Vera Rompasky of Salem, Illinois; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Dee L. Sledge, she was preceded in death by one son, Steven Sledge; grandson, Kyle Bayer; father and mother, Marvin and Lucy (Guymon) Tate; sisters, Marvene Edson and Carolyn “Sue” Parkinson; brothers, Charles Tate and Merle “Bud” Tate; and brother-and-sister-in-law, Bob and Dolly Sledge.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sledge will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon), Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Stacy Tate officiating.    Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service, Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, and will be received at the service, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O.
