PATOKA — Marion County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 46-year-old rural Patoka man overnight after he reportedly shot into a building north of Patoka.
According to Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps, Weston “Wes” Beyers was arrested around midnight Thursday after deputies responded to shots being fired.
Sheriff Cripps says his office had responded multiple times in the last few weeks to disturbances between Beyers and a woman he had allowed to live in a shed he owned on U.S. 51 north of Patoka. There were reportedly disagreements between the two whom the sheriff says were either in a romantic relationship or had a previous romantic relationship and Beyers wanted the woman out of the building.
Then before midnight Thursday, Beyers reportedly retrieved a shotgun and shot into the shed before leaving the scene. Deputies located him at his home and transported him to the Marion County Jail where he awaits being formally charged with Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied building and Class 4 felony reckless discharge of a firearm.
Beyers was released from jail Friday on pretrial conditions. He’s next scheduled to appear in court July 9 for a preliminary hearing on the charges.
