WEST FRANKFORT — A 73-year-old Franklin County man has been arrested for allegedly holding a family member hostage and for being armed with a handgun Sunday night in West Frankfort.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon, William B. Ice III, of West Frankfort, remains in the Franklin County Jail.

Sheriff Bacon says the sheriff’s office got a call about the hostage situation just after 8 p.m. Deputies responded to the home and requested further assistance from West Frankfort Police and Illinois State Police.

The situation ended around 10 p.m. when Ice exited the home, still armed, but complied with orders from law enforcement. He was then taken to jail for alleged Aggravated Unlawful Restraint and Aggravated Assault. The family member was not injured during the incident.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the West Frankfort Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and the West Frankfort Fire Department for their assistance.
