MARION COUNTY — Judge Mark Stedelin ordered a 19-year-old Centralia man released from the Marion County Jail under special conditions Wednesday after he was charged in connection with injuries to one of his four-month-old twin sons.

According to Centralia Police Lieutenant Joe Rizzo, Marvin Myers was arrested following an investigation into bruises discovered on the baby’s face.

Myers and the infants’ mother who lives in Mt. Vernon, reportedly took turns keeping the children, and on January 11th, she picked the boys up from their father and discovered the bruises.

The boy was first taken to SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon before being transferred to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis.

Hospital staff notified Mt. Vernon police of the child’s injuries, but when it was discovered the injuries likely happened in Centralia, Centralia police were contacted.

Court records say Myers squeezed the child’s head hard enough to leave hand prints and bruising on his face.

Martin reportedly told police he was rolled over in bed and accidentally struck the baby in the face with his elbow.
