MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon police arrested a 40-year-old Ina man Monday night on multiple firearms charges.
According to the MVPD, the Mt Vernon Police Department / Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit was conducting a surveillance detail for a wanted person. The target of the detail, Michael B Lane, was known to be wanted on a parole violation warrant from the State of Kentucky.
Officers stopped Lane on Highway 142 and reportedly took him into custody without incident. They report a subsequent search of Lane revealed he was carrying a handgun.
Lane was then transported to the Jefferson County Jail on local charges of being an Armed Habitual Offender and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Online records indicate Lane is currently on parole from the Kentucky Department of Corrections on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and escape.
He was reportedly jailed on the first two charges in 2019 when he walked away from a Warren County Kentucky Jail work detail.
Lane was arrested a week later by Mt. Vernon police in Illinois and returned to Kentucky where he was ultimately convicted and sent to prison. He was released to parole in November and returned to Illinois.
