The Nashville City Council met last night and there were several items discussed under the Street Department.  One of the packer trucks is having problems and either needs to be repaired or replaced.  It is only used the 1st week of every month said Superintendent Richard Schuette.  The Council agreed to have him investigate pricing on either option on the packer truck.  Heavy rains cause flooding in front of the doors at Friendship Manor nursing home, so the Council approved to have an additional drop box put in the ground and run to the storm sewer, which would keep the water from running up to the building.  The city will do the work and it will cost approximately $3,000.  The area of North Mill Street going up after the split from Route 127 needs some repair work to about 35 feet of the road in the amount of $2,000.  This project was approved of by the Council.  Before work is done, the Utilities Department will have to check for lines.  The Committee is still going over what is needed for ditch improvement work on High Street at Kaskaskia Street, so the Council tabled that topic.  Because of the holiday next Thursday, everyone’s trash pick-up moves forward one day, so Tuesday’s trash day is Monday, Wednesday’s is Tuesday and Thursday’s pick-up is Wednesday with all trash out by 7 AM.  Schuette reported that they have been out sweeping up the leaves off the streets for a few weeks now, but still have streets they have not gotten to, so he asked that residents please be patient.  The Council went over the project to paint the clarifiers at the water plant.  Superintendent Blaine Middleton explained the entire project.  This would be the clarifiers, the cones, the pre-treatment basins, some lining underneath and piping in that room.  Curry & Associates did the planning work on what all would need to be done and set a high estimate of $160,000, just in case there are some problems.  The work includes sandblasting and painting.  Middleton says now is the time to get the work done, as painters are looking for indoor work and the pricing is better for the city.  The high cost of this project is just one of the many reasons for the rate increase.  There are some tube settlers that have a support beam that could use some paint, but these expensive tubes could easily break as they are removed for the painting, so they are going to wait until the next time and most likely replace the beam with stainless steel.  The Council approved to accept bids and make a choice at the December 17th meeting, so the painting can be done early next year.
