The Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted many motorists again this past week. According to their report, they responded to 7 such calls, 2 of which were accidents. This included one on Thursday on Highway 13 at Illinois Route 160 as a vehicle driven by 18-year old Jacob Brammeier of Venedy, allegedly struck the rear of a vehicle driven by 29-year old Matthew Sprehe of Okawville. No injuries were reported, but Brammeier was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. The other accident was on Saturday on Interstate 64 at mile marker 48, as 28-year old Jeffrey A. Breedlove of Jackson, Georgia lost control of his vehicle in the heavy rain and drove down an embankment. There were no injuries or citations listed. Deputies also responded to a domestic disturbance in Hoyleton, a report of battery and criminal damage at the Hoyleton Children’s Home and debris on Interstate 64 near mile post 59 on Saturday. They also received a report of fraud from a rural Nashville resident on Saturday. According to that report, the resident said a female called stating she was from Publishers Clearing House and that this resident had won a cash prize and a package would arrive from Fed Ex. Then the resident was transferred to a male caller, who then tried to sell a “green dot” card from Walmart in the amount of $500. The Sheriff’s Office warns residents that if they receive a similar call, it is most likely a fraudulent call and to never give out information on such a call. Due to the heavy rain this weekend, there was flooding reported by the Sheriff’s Office on the roadway in the 1300 block of Washington County Line Road, but that was the only mention of flooding in the county.
