Betty L. Crane, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:54 pm April 11, 2025 at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, Indiana. She was born March 25, 1940 in DuQuoin, Illinois to the late Edward and Irene (Davis) Duncan. Betty married Eldon “Sonny” Crane, Sr. on May 8, 1955. They were blessed with forty-six years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2001.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Cathy Halliburton of North Lake, Texas; son, Sonny (Shannon) Crane Jr. of Mount Vernon, Illinois; granddaughters, Larissa (James) Vandelinde of Aubrey, Texas, Shalyn (Tim) Rapp of Dix, Illinois; grandson, Ty (Savannah) Crane of Mount Vernon, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Jade (Matt) Pacholczuk of Dickinson, Texas, Bailey Crane and Easton Crane, both of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Austin Shoulta, and Alex Shoulta, both of Paducah, Kentucky; great-great-grandson, Walker Pacholczuk of Dickinson, Texas; sister, Shirley (John) Benton of DuQuoin, Illinois; brother, Gene (Tonya) Duncan of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and like-family, Eileen and Bobby Summerford of White Oak, Texas.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Chuck Duncan; half brothers, Donald and Jerry Rice; and son-in-law, Rodger Halliburton.

Betty was deeply involved in church life and community service. She was active in the bus ministry, taught children’s church and nursery, participated in gospel singing, and served on various church committees at Bible Haven. After moving to Dix, she and Eldon became members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she continued serving, including on a committee that sent care packages to U.S. military personnel overseas. Betty also supported her son’s work with the Illinois State Youth Leaders at Nu Bowl Lanes.

She cherished spending time with family and enjoyed cooking, dancing, decorating cakes, and caring for the elderly.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Jason Webb and Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Betty ‘s honor to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or MS Foundation.
