Charles H. “Chuck” Criner, age 82 of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Helia Healthcare of Salem.

Charles was born on August 27, 1942 in Irving, IL the son of Henry Michael and Alvena Lorraine (Harvey) Criner. He married Carmen “Kitty” Criner in 1988 in Carlyle and she preceded him in death on May 6, 2019.

Charles is survived by his four children, Chris Gruenenfelder of Shiloh, Ron Criner of Marion, Lisa Goestenkors and husband Steve of Aviston, and Mike Criner of Shiloh; grandchildren, Brandon and wife Ami, Justin, Sara and husband Alex, Anna, and Brett; great-grandchildren, Max, Ozzy, Nash, and Elise; and siblings, Mary Ann Haslett and husband Harold, Lila Jean Criner, Karen Lorraine Neideffer and husband Don, Richard Harvey Criner and wife Gay, and Deborah Lynn Mallady and husband Dave.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Tim Gruenenfelder; and siblings, Janet Sue Clark and husband Bert and John Dewey Criner.

Charles worked for many years in the coal mines until his retirement.
