The sheriff’s office says the deputy was going north on Pittsburg Road, just south of Khoury League Road, when he struck a deer in the roadway severely damaging the patrol vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, traveled down a steep embankment, and came to rest in several feet of water at the bottom of a ravine. The deputy was not speeding and was wearing his seat belt.

The deputy suffered severe, but not life threatening, injuries which required him to be extricated from the vehicle. He was taken to a local trauma center where he was surgically treated to stabilize initial injuries.

At the time the sheriff’s office released this information, it was anticipated that the deputy would be transferred to a St. Louis regional trauma center to undergo further treatment.
