Linda Jean (Hughes) Trowbridge, born on December 4, 1939, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on July 2, 2024. She was the cherished daughter of Ila Mae Whitlock and Lawrence Vernon Hughes.

Linda’s family fondly remembers her as a vibrant and spirited woman who embodied both sass and sweetness. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, always greeting loved ones with a warm hug and a radiant smile. Her bubbly personality and outspoken nature were evident even when she was sleeping as she could often be heard telling people off while dreaming.

Family was the cornerstone of Linda’s life. She was there for every significant moment, from holding her daughter’s hand during the birth of her granddaughter to preparing comforting chicken soup and watching soap operas with her grandchildren when they were under the weather. Her home was a sanctuary filled with love, delicious meals, and the lively sounds of music blasting from her Kenwood stereo.

Linda loved gardening, finding joy and peace in nurturing her plants. She was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Elvis Presley. Her culinary talents were legendary within the family, with her apple pie and the “world’s best” peanut butter and jelly sandwich being favorites.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Shirley, Donna, and Nancy. Linda leaves behind her daughters Suzanne Trowbridge of Opdyke, Sonya Trowbridge of Centralia, Shana Hughes, and her son-in-law, Terry Hughes of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brittany Hughes of Florida and Jeremy Hughes of Mount Vernon, as well as her great-grandchildren, Zailee, Camden, Mya, and Maverick Hughes. Many special nieces and nephews, her beloved sister-in-law, Katherine Chandler of Kentucky, her dear friend, Marsha Carello of Mt.Vernon, her cousins, Sandy Hughes Holtcamp, and Harvey Hughes of Centralia, and her brother-in-law, Richard Ham of Opdyke, also mourn her loss.

A graveside service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held on September 7, 2024 at 1.30 p.m. at Union Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or your local animal shelter, causes that Linda held close to her heart.

Linda’s legacy of unconditional love and unwavering support will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
