JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 33-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Wednesday in Jefferson County Court to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a felony weapons charge.

Antonio McShane was arrested in April when Mt. Vernon police responded to a report of a large group of people fighting at Veterans Park on the 27th, with one person reportedly brandishing a handgun.

Upon the officer’s arrival, they found a crowd of around 50 – 75 people, with numerous skirmishes within the crowd.

Witnesses reported McShane was the person who had been brandishing a firearm and he was taken into custody after briefly resisting arrest.

He was ultimately charged with Class 2 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm and misdemeanor aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

McShane pleaded guilty Wednesday to the felony charge in exchange for the misdemeanor being dismissed.
