MOUNT VERNON — A 30-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested over the weekend in connection with shots being fired in the 200 block of Grant Street.
According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, around 10:35 p.m. Sunday, Mt. Vernon police and Illinois State Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Grant Street for a report of gunshots fired.
The officers were able to determine no one had been injured during the incident and began taking initial information from the victim and witnesses, other officers began searching the area for the suspect.
Officers located Daniel N. Drew in the area and were able to take him into custody. They were also able to locate video showing Drew firing a weapon, and a handgun believed used during the reported incident was discovered under a nearby grill.
Drew was taken to the Jefferson County Jail and was formally charged Monday in Jefferson County Court with Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm.
