JEFFERSON  COUNTY — A 42-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Thursday in Jefferson County Court to 20 years in prison for setting fire in 2022 to a Mt. Vernon apartment complex.

According to court records, a warrant had been issued for Troy Davis after he was determined to be a suspect in the arson of an apartment complex located at 2020 Broadway in Mt Vernon where one person was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Davis was ultimately located and arrested in Indianapolis, Indiana on the Jefferson County warrant charging him with setting the fire a month earlier He was returned to Jefferson County and has remained in the Jefferson County Jail since that time.

In October he filed an open plea of guilty to the Class X felony arson charge with an agreed-upon sentencing cap.

In addition to the 20-year prison sentence, Davis will have to serve 3 years of parole following the completion of his prison term.
