CENTRALIA — A high-speed pursuit on Christmas night resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Edward L. Kinney was arrested in connection with those incidents and taken to the Marion County Jail on charges of vehicle theft and vehicle theft conspiracy.

According to Centralia Police Lt. Joe Rizzo, police received a report of a 2006 grey Ford Taurus being taken from Arizona Joe’s on Christmas Eve and parked a few blocks away. An orange Kia was reportedly left in the parking lot where the Taurus was taken and someone returned for the Kia.

Centralia officers attempted to stop the Kia, which was quickly found to have been reportedly stolen earlier in the day from the parking lot of Produce Plus in Salem. The driver of the Kia, now identified as Kinney, fled the attempted stop and took officers on a pursuit with speeds reaching 100 mph down Route 161 toward Germantown. Clinton County deputies were waiting and deployed stop sticks. The sticks sent the Kia into a nearby field and Kinney fled the vehicle on foot. A sheriff’s deputy was able to apprehend Kinney who was ultimately taken to the Marion County Jail.

Salem police had earlier reported on the theft of the Kia, as well as multiple car burglaries in the area.

Kinney was arrested and charged earlier this month in Marion County Court with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary, and possession of methamphetamine.
