JEFFERSON COUNTY — The list of people named to the 2023 Senior Saints Hall of Fame in Jefferson County was released Friday, and according to Committee Co-chair Michaela Wharton, this appears to be the first time an all-female group of inductees has been selected.
According to Co-chair David Keen, the first Senior Saints list was made in 1998.
The list of 12 inductees this year includes Cynthia Armstrong, who is described by the person who nominated her as “a giving, caring person who is always thinking about the next small thing she can do to better someone else’s life.”
Betty Barker is described as having committed her life to helping others and that her love for God and His people is obvious throughout every part of her life, while Linda Duncan’s nominator said she’s always there with an encouraging word, kind smile, and her signature greeting of ‘how can I help you?’”
Shirley Gordon has worked tirelessly in the community by helping families to stay together,” and Kathryn “Kitty” Irvin was described by a nominator as “virtuous, kind and patient. She exemplifies the Quaker quote on the bench at the nature trail that bears her namesake – ‘With inner peace I walk.’”
Carolyn Lash’s life and contributions to her family, friends, and community have been an example of how God has not only saved her but sustained her so that she may be a bright light wherever she is” said her nominator, and Carol Martin’s nominator called her the pillar of her family through all of life’s blessings and hardships.
Beverly Mays, or “Ms. Bev” is described as a rare gem whose love, kindness, and inspiration has greatly impacted so many, and LaDonna Meyers, was described as a ‘cheerleader,’ as she has a smile and heart that welcomes a person into being part of the team.”
Patricia “Pat” Panarese, said a nominator, is loved by all and dedicated to helping our community grow, thrive, and become a better place. Nobody works harder or is more trustworthy and unwavering.
Vasheffia Ware is described as dedicated to being there for others, “family-oriented, eager to help wherever needed, and devoted to her Lord and her community.”
And finally, Rhonda Wooden. A nominator said, “Rhonda’s dedication to service and her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others surely secures her place in the Senior Saints Hall of Fame.”
The Senior Saints Hall of Fame is still fundraising and would greatly appreciate any business or individual who wishes to sponsor at any level.
The public can see the Senior Saints riding in style in the Fall Fest Parade on Saturday, Sept. 30th. The 2023 Senior Saints will be formally honored a banquet in their honor at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts on Saturday, November 4th.
