WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 35-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced last week in Washington County Court to three years in prison after he’d earlier pleaded guilty to a 2020 DUI crash that sent a Nashville, Illinois woman to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to Washington County State’s Attorney Daniel R. Janowski, Matthew A. Stanley pleaded guilty on June 15, 2023, where he that on August 20, 2020, he was northbound on Illinois State Route 127 when he swerved into the southbound lane causing a head-on collision with Diedra Holzhauer of Nashville, Illinois.
Holzhauer was airlifted from the scene due to the extent of her injuries. A search warrant was executed by the Nashville Police Department for Stanley’s blood, revealing a blood alcohol content of 0.117 some six-and-a-half hours after the crash.
Stanley received a three-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections and six months of mandatory supervised release thereafter. Stanley was also ordered to pay $140,366.92 in restitution to the victim.
