MASSAC COUNTY — A Massac County Jury Friday returned an indictment against a Kirksey, KY man for Involuntary Manslaughter in connection with the death of Samuel Scott Stalions of Golconda at the Acee’s Truck Stop in Metropolis on May 2, 2023.

According to the Massac County State’s Attorney’s office, the indictment alleges that Jonathon J. Riley recklessly performed an act likely to cause death or great bodily harm in that he held Stalions on the ground by placing his knee on Stalions’ neck thereby causing his death.

The Metropolis Police Department conducted a thorough investigation of the matter. The grand jury received testimony from numerous witnesses over several days of testimony prior to returning the indictment.

The charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
