MARION COUNTY — Preliminary autopsy results were inconclusive Friday on a 3-year-old migrant girl traveling on one of Texas’ migrant buses to Chicago when she died Thursday in Marion County.
Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon tells Withers Broadcasting the child was traveling with her parents on a charter bus. Cannon says while preliminary results were inconclusive, microscopic studies of tissue samples may provide a definitive cause of death.
According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the little girl was born in Columbia and lived in Venezuela before her family made their way to the U.S.
A statement the agency released says the bus departed from Brownsville, Texas where all passengers had their temperature taken and were asked if they had any medical conditions prior to their departure.
Once the child presented with health concerns, the bus pulled over on Interstate 57 near Kinmundy, and security personnel on board called 9-1-1.
The statement says the toddler received treatment from paramedics and later died at a local hospital.
No other information is being released at this time.
