FRANKLIN COUNTY — A 41-year-old Centralia man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly hitting a fully marked ISP squad car with his vehicle on southbound Interstate 57 near Benton.

According to Illinois State Police, around 12:36 a.m., an ISP squad car with lights flashing was parked on the inside shoulder of I-57 near the median conducting traffic control for the previous traffic crash ahead.

Another vehicle, a 2017 Beige Lincoln SUV driven by 41-year-old Terrance Vance of Centralia, was traveling south and failed to yield and move over.

Vance reportedly struck the passenger side of the squad car, continued traveling southbound, and was stopped by the squad car. No injuries were reported on the scene.

He was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Improper Passing of an Emergency Vehicle (Scott’s Law).

Vance posted bond and was released.
