MARION COUNTY — A 53-year-old Indianapolis man is in the Marion County Jail on charges he drove to meet a child under the age of 17 and then took the child with him.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Jerry West’s vehicle broke down Monday afternoon on Route 37 south of Salem when a passing motorist stopped to help.
The Good Samaritan noticed a young girl in the vehicle with West and ultimately contacted the sheriff’s office when something seemed off with the child.
A search then ensued for the vehicle and after about an hour it was found around the Interstate 57 Rest Area south of Salem.
West reportedly traveled to Kentucky from Indianapolis and not only took the young girl without permission but also in violation of an order of protection that had been issued against him.
West was ultimately taken to the Marion County Jail where he’s held on a no-bond warrant out of McCracken County, Kentucky.
He was also charged Wednesday in Marion County Court with Class 3 felony traveling to meet a minor and Class 4 felony abduction of a child under the age of 17.
