The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met on Monday, where they approved moving forward on infrastructure projects. Those projects include replacing the supper and lower roofs on the Science and Technology annex and at the College gymnasium. Both roofs are over 23 years old and have had leaking problems. Additional work will also address storm water drainage issues to both the east and west side of the Science and Technology buildings. The college also will upgrade the lighting in the gym, upgrade the heating and ac systems in the administration and library buildings, and have a moisture mitigation project to the Salem Education Center. Another project will include replacing all the automatic door openers to the main campus. Trustees at KC also approved the establishment of a new degree program, designed to help provide industries with the next generation of leadership. The Industrial Management Degree will focus more on soft skills, rather than the technical skills that will help an employee in other areas, such as supervision, quality control, sales, production control and scheduling. The degree is being established, in response to feedback from local businesses, saying they want employees to have more training in business and computers, in addition to technical training. The Industrial Management Degree is now one of 4 at the college, which is being unveiled in the next coming months. Also due to the declining bond obligations and fund balance reserves, the college levy will be lower by 3.47-cents per $100 of assessed valuation than last year.
