The Nashville Grade School Board of Education met Tuesday night and Superintendent Mike Brink reports that discussed the school’s report card and that they were happy with it.  It did not include the state testing scores from last year, which have not been released.  There will be a Truth in Taxation hearing on the tax levy on December 22nd.  Brink says this is needed, as they are asking over 5 percent above what they asked for last year. Because of the annexation of the Hoyleton school, this year is different.  They will levy higher in hopes to capture what they are entitled to get.  With the annexation, they can subtract that out from the denominator of the formula.  They may very well receive all that they ask for in the levy.  The issue is that they are ultimately going to leave hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table that can’t ever be recouped in an effort to ensure that the tax rate stays as low as possible, so they are not going to levy to the maximum that they could, but the levy will increase.  Brink will have the information on the school’s website sometime later next week for the public to look over prior to the meeting.  The Presbyterian Church in Nashville made a donation of $1,500 to NGS for their afterschool programs, which have expanded in the past couple of years.  This gives the students something to be active in after school.  Brink says the Board was very appreciative of the support from the church.  The Astronomy club has begun meeting.  The new building is mostly set up, but the large telescope still needs to be mounted in the next couple of weeks, but smaller telescopes can be used now with the 1st outdoor meeting coming soon.  The Board will be going over some long-term planning goals starting next summer, as they look to put together a 5-year financial plan.  They have held off on this to allow for the annexation of the Hoyleton school to become complete.  The last day of school for Nashville Grade School is December 22nd and the students will be back on January 4, 2016.
