A 21-year old man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for killing the owner of an East Saint Louis beauty supply store two years ago during an attempted robbery. John Paraham of East Saint Louis pleaded guilty Friday in Saint Clair County Court to first-degree murder in the death of Abdulaziz Al-Hakim. Saint Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly said in court that Paraham will have to serve 100 percent of his 35-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The Belleville News-Democrat reports that a co-defendant in the case, Travion Wells, also is charged with first-degree murder and will go to trial. Al-Hakim was shot and killed in October 2013 at his Beauty Royal Supply Store.
