The West Washington County Community Unit District #10 Board of Education met a week early, due to the holiday next week. Superintendent Scott Fuhrhop says they talked about the banner for the 1970 basketball team that made it to the Elite 8 and went 29 and 2 on the year. It was the first time the school’s team made to the state tournament. A group of people will purchase the banner and the school will hang it in the gym. The Board talked about the Tax Levy and will have a hearing on it at the next meeting, but it will be below 5 percent, so no Truth in Taxation will be needed. Work will again be done on the greenhouse tomorrow beginning at 7 AM and they still need volunteers to help with this project. They also talked about ways to get funds to have work done to the baseball and softball fields, to get them upgraded with a new surface topping that is better and easier to manage. Also, during the Christmas break, the flooring in the gym lobby area will be replaced. Fuhrhop says in personnel action, they hired Angela Timmermann as the varsity softball coach, as she comes from coaching at McKendree University. They also approved of volunteer coaches, including Mike Frederking as boys’ basketball coach, Cameron Obermeier and Rachel Green as girls’ basketball coaches. The next Board meeting is on December 22nd at 5:15 for the Tax Levy, to be followed by the regular meeting.
