The number of animals that need homes that are at the Washington County Animal Shelter has decreased in the past week.  1 dog found a home, but 2 new dogs were brought in, including a pit bull mix and a beagle, so the number of dogs is at 4.  Last week there were 9 cats available, and this week there are 6, so there are now 10 animals at the shelter that need homes this week.  Dog adoption fee is $30, which includes an A.V.I.D. Identification Chip.  In addition, new owners will receive a certificate for $50 off spaying or neutering.  Pictures are available online at www.petfinder.com and type in 62263 at the first space in the upper left.  Also, Warden Jane Rueter wants to remind residents that winter weather is coming and a new law has gone into effect, making it against the law to leave pets outside in extreme temperatures that could cause injury or death to them.  If a pet is hurt or dies as a result of being left out in extreme weather, the owner can be charged with a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 or up to 1 year in jail.  The shelter also is a place to drop off aluminum cans for recycling.  They then use the money from this to help pay for expenses of housing the cats and dogs.  It is located at 17,990 Richview Road in Nashville.  For more information, call 327-4800, extension 355.
