The Nashville Police Department responded to some accidents in the past week. One was Wednesday morning on North Grand Avenue at West Maple Street, as a car driven by 48-year old Scott D. Hazel of Nashville, struck a car driven by 35-year old Joshua A. Hughey of Ashley. Hazel allegedly did not see the other car as he was going north on North Grand Avenue and pulled out into the intersection in front of Hughey’s car. Hughey was unable to avoid colliding with Hazel’s car. There was no mention of any injuries or citations being issued. On Wednesday afternoon, they responded to the area of Mockingbird Road near the Republic of Tea for an abandoned van left on the roadway. Police had the van towed, as it had been there for several hours. On Thursday morning, the NPD responded to an accident at South Mill Street at East Fairview Lane. A car driven by 40-year old Cheryl Baggett of Pinckneyville was traveling north on South Mill Street and saw a pick-up truck driven by 66-year old Rick Rainey ease out of a private drive into the southbound lane of South Mill Street to allow a school bus to enter the same private drive from the southbound lane. Baggett did not think the truck was going to stop, so she swerved to the right and her car entered Fairview Lane, which had recently been oiled and chipped, so she was unable to control the vehicle on the loose rock. It left the roadway, struck a stop sign post and a utility pole guidewire. There was no mention of any injuries or citations being issued. In the afternoon, there was an accident on South Mill Street at East Alton Street, as a vehicle driven by 22-year old Nicole E. Mollett of Greenville, was stopped for traffic, but was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a 16-year old male of Hoyleton, who had not seen Mollett stopped ahead. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. There was a hit-and-run accident on Friday afternoon on South Mill Street and East Lebanon Street, as an unknown car struck the rear of a vehicle driven by a 16-year old female from Nashville that was stopped in traffic. Her car was pushed into a car in front driven by 63-year old Connie Ganz of Nashville. There were no injuries and no citations issued as the instigator of the accident drove away. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, officers responded to an accident in the area of North Mill Street near East Elm Street, as a car driven by 57-year old David G. Meier of Nashville was slowing down in traffic on North Mill Street, when a car driven by 46-year old Carl Dunklin of DuQuoin rear-ended Meier’s car, as Dunklin allegedly did not see the traffic slowing down. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.
