It was a big weekend in Nashville for music, as Nashville High School hosted one of the sectional IHSA organizational music contests, bringing in schools from all over southern Illinois to compete. NCHS Music Director Steve Browne says there were over 30 performances with choirs and different bands in various school class sizes. Nashville is currently in 6th place in Class B with 654 points, which is out of 80 schools. Comparing this to all schools in every class size, Nashville is 16th out of 386, which is in the top 4 percent of the state. Scoring is determined on each groups performance and the points each group earns was added to the IHSA solo and ensemble points from earlier in the year, to determine their ranking in the state. All 4 groups earned nothing but firsts. Nashville’s Concert Band had 2 perfect scores and missed a third by .1 point. Also, the Jazz Choir had 2 perfect scores, while the Choir were half a point away from 2 perfect scores. The competitions may be over, but the students still have various concerts coming up for Jazz Night, Percussion Night, Pop Music Night for the State Theatre and their Summer Concert.
