The Irvington Grade School Board of Education met Tuesday night and Superintendent Dave Schulte said they were nominated by nearly 15 area farmers for the Monsanto American Farmers Grant worth $10,000.  That was the first step and now the Board approved the school to send in the application.  He says they should know something by August.  There is a larger $25,000 grant available, but only one of those, while there are several $10,000 awards given out, so they have a better chance at that level.  Sandra Neabuhr was named to the Kaskaskia Special Education District Board to represent the Irvington Grade School.  The Board approved the school to seek bids for work in the kitchen on the sink and drainage issues.  They approved for a survey of the school to be done by the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center out of Champaign.  This free service includes a survey of the school and then a report on what can be done to save money by being energy efficient.  They will look at the windows, insulation, lighting and other areas.  If the Board goes through with any recommendations, there is an initial $10,000 investment with the Center and they will go from there with the fixes.  The Board went through the formality and approved the final 2013-2014 school calendar and then approved the 2014-2015 school calendar.  They approved the prevailing wage, which is an annual item on the agenda.  The Board also approved a new riding lawn mower from Reichmann Brothers in Centralia.  Graduation will be on May 30th at 7 PM in the school gym.  That is also the last day of school.  Upcoming events include the Awards Program on May 15th at 6 PM at the school.  This will include sports, academic and citizenship recognitions.  The school picnic will also be on May 30th at Irvington Park with a cookout.  The next meeting will be on May 19th.
