State Representative Charlie Meier is sponsoring a House Joint Resolution that would honor a fallen firefighter by naming a section of highway after him.  The event happened on December 2, 2012 as Bartelso – Santa Fe firefighters were dispatched to a report of a timber fire in their area with further reports that the fire was approaching a residence.  Firefighter Tim Jansen and another firefighter were the first to arrive on scene in a brush apparatus.  Firefighter Jansen was the passenger in the unit and jumped out to assist the driver while the truck was repositioned.  As the vehicle moved backward, Firefighter Jansen either slipped or tripped and was struck and run over by the vehicle.  In Jansen’s honor, the section of Illinois Route 161 between the intersection of Hanover Street in Germantown and the intersection of South B Street in Bartelso will be named after him.  After passing committee the resolution now moves on to the full House of Representatives.
