The Nashville Hornets are 2nd in the State in Class 2A Boys’ Basketball after losing 76 to 62 to Bloomington Central Catholic in triple overtime on Saturday night in the Championship game. It capped a great season that saw the Hornets picked to be number 1 in the State at the beginning of the season, but then they struggled. They really put it together towards the end of the year to make to the final. To get to the Championship game, the Hornets defeated the Petersburg Porta Blue Jays 62 to 43 in the Class 2A semi-final on Friday night to move into the final. Yesterday, the town welcomed the team back with a parade in the rain, sleet and snow, but then went to the high school for a welcome back reception. WNSV sports announcer, Bo Meyer was the emcee and the administration spoke. Head Coach Brad Weathers talked about the season and the struggles and how proud he was of them for making it through to the final game and then gutting it out through the overtimes. The seniors each spoke and they thanked their families, the fans, especially the students, the coaches, the trainer, the cheerleaders and each other for the great year. The cheerleaders were also recognized and those seniors also thanked their families, the fans, coaches and the basketball team for giving them a reason to cheer. There were also several times when Music Director Steve Browne was appreciated for the pep band, which was mentioned to being the best at any games. It was a great scene at Peoria with all the parents and fans, but the student body made their presence known with their voice and their spiritwear. Check out our facebook page for some pictures from the tournament later this morning. And by the way, if you haven’t liked the winter here in Nashville, Peoria still had 5 foot high snow piles from all the snow they have had this year. So again, congratulations to the Nashville Hornets High School Boys’ Basketball team for their 2nd place showing in Class 2A.
Here are some pictures from the parade and reception.
