The Illinois Department of Revenue reminds taxpayers to file taxes soon. More than 2.3 million taxpayers have done so and more than half of those are getting refunds. More than 95 percent of early returns have been filed electronically. Those needing help, might find a place that can help them for free. Check www.tax.illinois.gov for more information and locations. But the state also has its own filing program, which allows everyone to file their return at no cost on the secure website. Also, families should try to take advantage of the Earned Income Credits, which in some instances can generate a larger return. Tax filing day is April 15th.
