The Nashville Chamber of Commerce general membership met yesterday and one of the guest speakers was Nancy Newby, Chairperson for the Washington County Relay for Life.  The event is on June 27th and 28th behind the Nashville Primary School from 5 PM to 5 AM.  The reason they try to have people stay throughout that time is that cancer never sleeps.  This year’s theme is Stars & Stripes for a Cure.  They hope to raise $70,000 this year and usually 30 percent of their funds come from businesses.  She says it is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the focus of the money raised is for research.  There are a couple of researchers at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville that receive this money.  They will sell the purple bows, as well as the luminarias to be lit that night.  There will be food, games and music.  There will also be a Survivor Lunch on June 8th with more details to follow.  For more information or to register a team, visit their website, relayforlife.org/washingtoncountyil.  The organization meets every first Monday of the month at the Washington County Hospital in the conference room and Newby says everyone is welcome to attend.
