When does food go bad? There’s usually a date listed on the product, but just how important is that date? Jenna Smith, a nutrition and wellness educator for the University of Illinois Extension has this advice for those in question, saying that the dates are when the food should be eaten for best quality of taste, not so much of when it goes bad. But, she says don’t push it too far, as there is a time to throw it out, especially if it smells bad, has black mold or white fuzz. Regardless, don’t disregard the labeling, as it may require something special after being opened that can prolong the longevity of that product.
